YellowBrickRoad

Yellowbrickroad was released in 2010. The plot is as follows, per IMDB, 1940: the entire population of Friar, New Hampshire walked up a winding mountain trail, leaving everything behind. 2008: the first official expedition into the wilderness attempts to solve the mystery of the lost citizens of Friar. IMDB score 4.7
I know what you're thinking, and I thought the same thing. This is a movie about a group of people who, while following a mysterious trail through the wilderness in search of answers, begin to perish. It therefore must involve masked killers or mutated animals, right? Actually, no. "YellowBrickRoad" takes its inspiration from some of the classic older horror movies – such as "The Shining", "Deliverance" and the original version of "The Wicker Man" – and, instead of aiming purely for the eyes of the audience, it also aims for the mind. This is a slow-burning psychological horror filled with sights and sounds which get under your skin and worm their way into your brain; just as they do with the characters themselves.

Saying this film lacks violence and gore is a lie. “YellowBrickRoad” involves scenes of terrible, bloody things happening to people. But these scenes are filmed in a way that forces the audience to let their imaginations run rampant to fill in the gaps. Prepare, as this film will stick with you. It’s not really the death scenes, but the way “YellowBrickRoad” forces you to watch the seemingly well-adjusted individuals drift rapidly into insanity, rage, loneliness, brutality and just plain utter confusion and the very rules of reality change around them.

The ending is what some people will have a problem with. I loved the ending because it was very David Lynch-ian. It was a very interesting and apt was to close the film.  If you enjoy films where the protagonist are confronted with something unkown and terrible that slowly burns away at their sanity, then this film is for you. I only have one bad thing to say. I cannot get “YellowBrickRoad” out of my head. It’s like it was burned into a small part of my psyche and rears its little head every once in a while.

I highly recommend a viewing of this film. 7.5/10
