Sleepaway Camp

(spoiler free, at least I'll try)
Sleepaway Camp is one of those films that stick with you for along time.  In case you don't know here is the plot according to IMDB... Slightly traumatized and painfully shy Angela Baker is sent away to summer camp with her cousin. Not long after Angela's arrival, things start to go horribly wrong for anyone with sinister or less than honorable intentions (6.1).
Back in the 80s horror movies were a dime a dozen.  It was the best way to make a quick buck. There was an abundance of them that graced video. You can add Sleepaway Camp to that list. This is a typical scary film. It has it's moments of both scary and funny in some parts. But having said all that, this movie is as good as it is and it's not too bad, because the mother in this film is creepier than Mrs. Bates and she actually makes you want to kill her. The two parts that will stick with you are pretty much the most hard-core horror parts in the movie.  The first is the gruesome kill of one of the girl campers with a curling iron.  The worse part is what they don't show.  You get to use you imagination and that is where istis horrible. The second is probably the famous ending.  If you haven't seen the movie then I'm not going to spoil it.  But for those who have seen it then you know how amazing it is.  I feel that is what set this film apart from all the other horror movies of that time.

The acting is really good specially by Felissa Rose. The rest of the cast is just okay. The direction is dark and creepy but looks like an aged Slasher in these days.

This is one of my favorite movies from the 80s. I love watching this movie with someone who has not seen it.  Just the look on their face is priceless.  All in all I highly recommend this film even if you have already seen it.  Shout! Factory release a very excellent Blu-ray of Sleepaway Camp.  So watch and enjoy.  I guarantee you'll like it.  9/10
