Deliver Us from Evil is by far the scariest movie I have seen in the theater in a long time. I have been looking foward to this movie for a while now and all tho I am not one for police dramas, I am one for possission movies. This film combined the two very well, from the police lingo and procedures to the eeriness and creepiness of possession films.
First I have to give props to the director Scott Derrickson. His movie Sinister was amazing. It made you look behind your back for a few weeks. Deliver Us from Evil was even better and making you cover your eyes. As soon as the film begins you notice the dark and dirty feeling. Starting out as just a movie about people doing crazy things, you don't really see anything weird until later. The one thing I did like is you never really see any demons. All you get to experience is the possessed individuals and the insane ways they act. Let me say that the makeup is amazing. The look they give the possessed is just plan creepy.
Altho the film says that is a based on a true story, most of it is embellished. That still makes me want to read the book from where this story is taken from. Eric Bana was a great choice to play Sarchie because we rarely see him in scary movies but still puts on an amazing performance. All in all this is an amazing film. Probably the best horror movie this year. I highly recommend seeing this in the theater to experience creepiness factor that it emits.
